English Language Support

ESOL – (English for Speakers of Other Languages) 

International students are placed in mainstream classes and receive, if required, ESOL support from a qualified, specialist ESOL teacher.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION: Camps; William Pike challenge, Pedal Ready

Cultural Inclusiveness

Aotearoa New Zealand has a proud history. At Evans Bay Intermediate School our students are exposed to a range of cultural experiences relating to Tikanga, Te Reo and Te Ao Māori: part of upholding the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. We acknowledge, respect, and celebrate the diversity of our students, staff and community.



Classes

All classes at Evans Bay Intermediate School are composite, mixed ability, Year 7 and Year 8 homeroom classes.Why? 

Composite classes:

  • provide emotional and social stability and security so vital for the maturing pre-adolescent child

  • enable the incoming Year 7 students to integrate more naturally and easily into the school system

  • provide each student, where appropriate, the same Class Teacher for their two years of intermediate schooling

  • are compatible with the seamless design and structure of the New Zealand Curriculum

  • enable the school to maximise staff expertise and knowledge and to make the best use of the facilities
