Reunification Plan

Purpose: To have a plan for the parents and children to be reunified after an emergency

Scenario 1 School - Decision to evacuate or stay - decision made by the Principal and/or Caretaker/Front office 

Decision to stay:

  • Everyone to back courts - staff take cell phones and back packs where possible

  • Staff to wear hi vis vests if possible so they can be easily identified

  • Staff to inform Caretaker/Principal that all are present

  • Once all are present - decision made to relocate in an orderly fashion to an inside under cover area - preferably hall

  • Move to Hall - recheck everyone present

  • Sit everyone down and talk to group  - remind children not to use mobile phones as this can lead to misinformation

  • Allocate responsibilities to staff -

    • evacuation checkers - 4 staff

    • entry point monitors hall foyer doors (so children cannot leave) - 4 staff

    • studio - lock doors and monitor top door is required - 2 staff

    • outside communication 

      • staff for informing parents or caregivers

      • staff for emergency services

    • Student welfare - all the rest of the staff

  • Parents to enter via foyer

  • Staff with lists and cameras (to photograph caregiver with child as they leave) posted at hall emergency exit doors to courtyard, check off child and caregiver and leave 

  • Other staff to control children ensuring they are safe and well until all children have left.


Scenario 2 Badminton Hall - Decision to evacuate or stay - decision made by the Principal and/or Caretaker/Front office 

Decision to go

  • Everyone to Crawford Road grass - staff take cell phones and back packs where possible

  • Staff to wear hi vis vests if possible so they can be easily identified

  • Staff to inform Caretaker/Principal that all are present

  • Once all are present - decision made to relocate in an orderly fashion to an inside under cover area - Badminton Hall

  • Move to Badminton Hall - recheck everyone present

  • Sit everyone down and talk to group  - remind children not to use mobile phones as this can lead to misinformation

  • Allocate responsibilities to staff -

    • evacuation checkers - 4 staff

    • entry point monitors hall foyer doors (so children cannot leave) - 4 staff

    • Check for any other exits - 2 staff

    • outside communication 

      • staff for informing parents or caregivers

      • staff for emergency services

    • Student welfare - all the rest of the staff

  • Parents to enter via emergency exit door - closest to Ruahine Street

  • Staff with lists and cameras (to photograph caregiver with child as they leave) posted at hall foyer exit door to carpark, check off child and caregiver and leave

  • Other staff to control children ensuring they are safe and well until all children have left.
